I’ve been in Tahoe since Dec. 26th. Nelson actually skied on Dec. 27th and he actually LIKED it!!! He bought boots at the end of the season last year… and I had new bindings put on Jamie’s old skis… so he had his own equipment and that helped. Renting equipment is always a drag.
We went to Diamond Peak… and if you are going to Tahoe and don’t ski… it is a GREAT place. You can buy an all day lift ticket for the two bunny-est slopes for $21. The bunny-est of the beginner hills is pretty much like 2 foot ball fields and is not intimidating at ALL. And he was very happy there.
I was happy and proud of Nelson … we were up early and got there at 8am (and Nelson is NOT a morning person)… so there were NO lines at all (I talked to a lady on the ski lift who got there at 9:30am and waited in line for TWO HOURS to buy a lift ticket). Diamond Peak is a very small resort and there are no gondolas or anything… so we were parked about 25 yards from the lodge and lift lines. And it was overcast and VERY dreary and all of 15 degrees and Nelson still got out there and had a great time! We left when it started getting really crowded at 11am (since it was a holiday week) and Nelson said that he could REALLY see the wisdom in getting there early.
I got 8 days of skiing in. All of the resorts closed down yesterday due to high winds. They were predicting 10 feet of snow above 7,000 feet and our condo is at 6,800 ft (I'm not sure that it has been cold enough to snow 10 feet... they may be getting 10 feet of rain. ). And if I can’t ski… I’d be REALLY bored holed up in the condo for 3 days (especially since there is a good chance that power would go out) and then needing to drive back on Monday. It was clear and sunny when I left but started raining HARD in Sacramento and rained HARD all the way home. But other than that it was an uneventful trip. Took me 4 hours and 45 mins to get home… which is very normal.
I just looked at the Mt. Rose website and they are closed down today. I’d be bummed if they were open today and I was down here.
I've heard on news that there are 1,300 power outages in the Bay Area... so if I disappear... that will be it.
PS… Oh… and I turned 50 on Wednesday.

Yes, he's home safe. Thanks. No delay on his flight, though it was bumpy, and the bridge had reopened by the time he landed. He's pretty wiped out, but I'm just glad he's here.
I almost posted a milk carton with your picture on it today. I was wondering where you have been. Happy 50th birthday, sounds like you had a great time! Welcome back, you were definitely missed!
I have no specific goal(s) right now. I am trying to find the spiritual side of myself that I lost somewhere along the way.
Oh, man. Can you say "self-absorbed?" I really meant to include birthday wishes in that woe-is-me post. And I was going to say something clever like, "50 is the new 30!" I guess the 70 mph winds blew away my brain for a moment.

Best wishes to your dh!!!!
I've heard that many flights out of SFO are cancelled... don't know what is going on at Oakland or San Jose. He can always stay at a hotel at the airport.
I think that the worst of the storm is over our house right this moment.
* * * * * Thanks for all of the b-day wishes!

Glad you got home safely! I'm hunkered down for the day, happy I decided not to work this week. The bridge I have to cross to get to my office is closed due to high winds and accidents, many of the highways are flooded, public transportation has been suspended, and DS's usual day care center is closed due to a power outage. Probably wouldn't have mattered anyway, though, because until about 30 minutes ago there was a tree down across our driveway. Fortunately, it's a shared road and my valiant neighbors went after it with an axe.
