Ok. I need to get back to baby steps and being accountable again. I've gained some weight, I got sucked into some negativity and a negative relationship, and now I am going to accentuate the positive and get back to the healthy eating.
So I am taking the baby steps of walking in the morning and exercising a little, every day. I'd slipped out of the habit because there are no gyms near me, so there was not a good way of incorporating it into my routine, and I didn't make time for it.
I am looking for a gym that is close to some of my traffic patterns so that I can do the gym in the winter...
I bought Vitamin Water Zero and V-8 on my last Costco trip. I figure the V-8 is good as a quick, healthy snack.
I've been buying a lot of fruit at the farmer's market, too. Some veg, but mostly fruit.
I'm also thinking of starting a blog as an accountability factor.
where I knew the food would be bagels and cream cheese. http://www.shoptraveljackets.com/ So rather than struggle with trying to eat only a modest amount (got to be honest--can't do that just yet)I planned and prepared. Ate my lunch while others ate bagels and cream cheese. No one pointed me out or said I was weird. Planning and being prepared for situations in which I tend to eat unconsciously is a great first step. http://www.edhardysall.com/
You can also make your own flavored waters by putting some water in a pitcher in the fridge with one or more of the following: slices of orange, lemon, strawberries, or cucumber. I am sure that this would work with peaches or blueberries as well. It's really refreshing with out being sweet.
As for snacks, could you make some popcorn and bag it up in small ziplocks? It has lots of fiber and I find it quite satisfying. Or small bags of nuts and dried fruits? I don't know about the gluten content, but Smart Food is making great 100 calorie packs of a carmel corn type thing with extra fiber. It comes in 3 different flavors, it might be worth checking out.
I just wish that even the diet water drinks were not oversweetened. ...
I use diet water drinks sometimes. My favorites are Vitamin Water Zero (lemonade and orange) and Skinny Water (tangerine) Like you, I find they are way too sweet; they feel almost too concentrated to me. I use 2 parts water to 1 part diet drink. Works great. I get some flavor and variety along with extra water. BTW, I often do a similar thing with diet soda. I combine 1/2 can diet soda with 1 can sparkling water for my perfect tasting soda. (I toss the remaining half can of diet soda. Somewhere along the line Dawn talked about not it being better to waste the junk than to consume it. Thanks, Dawn. )
The problem, for me, is that most prepackaged stuff that works as a snack contains gluten. And gluten-free stuff is basically lousy on fiber and contains more crap than non-gf. I'm also lousy on taking things out of my purse, etc, so fresh fruit or yogurt isn't really an option.
I just wish that even the diet water drinks were not oversweetened.
I've also started a blog. Going to take pics of myself regularly to post....

Good idea! I used to drink High-Fiber V-8, on the theory that it is the most filling version.
I'm still a fan of Kashi Golean (not Crunch) cereal. It's high-fiber, high-protein (also filling) and moderately sweetened. A small bowl of it makes a nice snack.
