Trying not to freak out

Good morning everyone. I am in need of some feedback/support.

This week is my 31st week of pregnancy. One of my goals throughout all this (and hope to continue this after I have the baby) is not to compare myself to others moms or kids.

Last week when I went to the doctor the nurse put me down at 142 and I started around 131ish. When I look at other mom's who are in my Yoga class who are due around the same time they seem MUCH bigger to me.

My doctor has never said anything like "Are you eating enough?" which has led me to believe I am fine...but I am just trying not to freak out now about this.

Any thoughts on this? Thanks for listening!

You know, I think those other women should be looking at you and wondering what you're doing right, instead of the other way around. I'd say your weight gain is much healthier, and as long as your doctor thinks the baby is growing at the right rate, you should be fine.

Steph, It is the size of your uterus that counts, not how much you necessarily weigh. Although you are expected to gain slowly throught the first and second trimester, the third is when the baby grows and you gain the most.
It is called the fundal height. It should equal plus or minus 2cm however many weeks you are.

When they do an ultrasound they also measure the baby, his or her heart and other organs. They also compare these measurements to your number of weeks.

I personally, gained 70 pounds each pregnancy. Not good, but thank God I did not get gestational diabetes.

Hi Steph,
I gained most of my weight in the last two months or so. I did not start wearing maternity clothes until almost six months!! I think your doctor would probably ask more questions if he/she felt as if you were not gaining quickly enough. Next time you go I would ask them if what you have gained is in a normal range. I wouldn't worry about it. Some people gain a lot, and quickly, while others don't gain nearly as much or gain more towards the end of the pregnancy.

I have no specific goal(s) right now. I am trying to find the spiritual side of myself that I lost somewhere along the way.

The baby grows the most at the end of the pregnancy. You may find that from here on out, you gain 1 lb/week. That would put you at about +20 lb weight gain which seems fine to me.

I think lots of women use pg as an excuse to eat whatever they want/whenever.
