My EAster basket if filled with girly things, fingernail polish, a favorite hand lotion, some jewelry I've been pining over, and some crafting items. I can't tempt myself with the chocolate bunnies or peeps or black jelly beans.

I am going out to the restaurant with the rest of the employees wives/husband and families to eat with our employee when the buffet is over for the general public. It's a nice gesture, and I appreciate not having to fix dinner when n o one eats it. I made sure to suggest healthy choices over the usual big dinner items....so I'll be happy.

Actually, I think this is the first year dd has not gotten an actual basket of some sort. The ratio between candy and non-food items changed over the years but there was always a basket. Last year it was a tin bucket decorated with ladybugs (her mascot). This year I made a donation to PBS and got tickets to a private members only tour of the Titanic Exhibition that is here in town at the present time. I put that with an Easter card (which has ladybugs on it) next to her side of the bed and that was all this year.

We color raw eggs because we don't eat hard-boiled either. The raw eggs die fine and it is fun to crack a colored egg into a recipe.

I used to feel like a "bad mother" since I didn't do an Easter basket for ds. He didn't like hard-boiled eggs, didn't need the candy, and it seemed ridiculous to color eggs for me! I used to make sure each of us had a new outfit for the day - start of Spring and all.

We'd see my mom who'd give small baggies of candy (small chocolate eggs ( Hershey's kisses size) and pretzels). That was plenty.

The kids have been doing small egg hunts throughout Easter. They also got one gift each (Pocket kitties and Mastermind).

My plate hasn't exactly been empty. Friday we had lamb meat loaf, mashed potatoes and green salad. Yesterday it was mac and ground beef casserole. Tonight we are having chicken in a ginger and orange sauce.

Unfortunately, there's more - such as cheese and biscuits for dessert, after dinner mints, and the odd snack... I haven't exactly had to go without. But most of it has been worth it, despite the extra calories.

Just a question, after reading all of your responses, and my own thoughts, I am wondering "who" told us we had to have candy to make it Easter? The people in the stores yesterday were I swear more nuts than Christmas "needing" to have this or that candy for their baskets.

DS is at my mom's house, and I know he got 2 webkinz (stuffed animals that you can sign up on line to create a virtual life.) I know he got a 1 lb. chocolate bunny at an Easter Egg hunt yesterday.

SO...I was going to get him a webkinz, but since he just got two, I don't think he needs another one. Since I'm also sure he'll get plenty of candy between the 2 grandmas, he doesn't need any more of that.

I'll find him some sort of Easter gift, rather than the traditional basket. (I also have a feeling the baskets are packed away.) He won't be home until late tomorrow, so I can go during lunch or after work to take advantage of the sales.

Since I am home alone, I am going to brunch with a friend. So, my brunch will be whatever I order off the menu.

I think I might splurge and order Eggs Benedict. I cannot even tell you when the last time I had them was, and I do love them, but usually avoid them because of the high fat Hollondaise sauce. I know that I can easily control my food the rest of the day though, so I can have salad, 7 grain pilaf and some grilled chicken or something very simple and healthy like that.

No Easter baskets at our houseSmiler

We will go to my parents for a quiet dinner of ham, potatoes of some kind, coleslaw that I am bringing (DH requested it), Easter eggs that I colored today with some of my students, dessert of some kind...I am bringing chocolate Fiber One cookies that I made today. I think I will bring some wine. Who knows what my parents will be serving besides the above!

Dd will get a basket with socks, stickers, erasers (her love), a yo-yo, Cadbury egg (I hate them) and some smaller chocolate.

I know I can manage to stay away from her stuff. I had enough today and sort of planned to splurge today-- I guess it was a contolled out of control day.

Tomorrow I am making rack of lamb, mashed potatos, asparagus, biscuits and carrott cake. We are eating with friends. I have a plan to eat 3 oz of meat, 1/2 biscuit and loads of asparagus. I will have a small slice of cake- small.

We are having brunch at my mom's. She's having make your own mini fritatas (in cupcake tins) and french toast with apples. Both will be with egg beaters, and the french toast is made with whole wheat bread. We are having roasted asparagus, steamed broccoli and fruit salad along side of it. Then I'll indulge in a bit of lemon meringue pie for dessert. Then we will most likely walk up to the cemetary after dinner (about 1 mile each way)

We don't do easter baskets for anyone. Breakfast will be cereal and toast (as usual....have to be at church at 7:30 to get ready for skit for dh and 2 dd's and will be there until probably 11:30 or so) "lunch" will be with friends, and we are doing grilled steaks, potato salad (made with light mayo), very lightly steamed asparagus, green salad, and vanilla ice cream with sliced strawberries.

I think that if we need to do dinner at home we will probably do baked potatoes and grilled turkey cutlets and a green salad. Or maybe some pilaf....nah, I won't even fool myself, it will be simple....baked potatoes! Smiler

Blessings,

Lori

No easter basket for the adults at our house and dd's is mostly filled with trinkets rather than chocolate and candy (although there is a little bit of that too).

My big treat tomorrow will be one of the iced cookies dd and I baked yesterday. They are wonderful but full fat and pretty large (egg and butterfly shaped).

For our meal, we do hors d'ourves after church while we prep the main meal - veggies and hummus, assorted cheese and salami.

Our meal will be sauted frogs legs (recipe from a couple of weeks ago that I tried) for the appetizer and then roasted leg of lamb with potatoes and green beans for the main meal.

We are planning on also opening some wonderful bottles of wine so tomorrow will be a splurge day for sure.
