AT A WEIGHT WATCHERS MEETING!!!!!!!

He brought half his lunch home today for input on guessing at the points.

He hit his highest adult weight ever this weekend and I think that he was worried that he might end up back in the hospital.

We had the whole conversation about "I know what to do! I know how to lose weight. I don't need help". But if that is true, why haven't we done it yet... and sometimes you just need to sit in a group of people and nodd your head in agreement about the cookies in the vending machine or whatever.

We'll see what happens!!! Big Grin

I don't know if his leader is preparing him... his wife is.Smiler

I think that he was a little disappointed that he didn't lose 5 lbs...

I told him that it very well may take the better part of a year to lose 25 lbs... and he said that he expected to lose it faster than that. Roll Eyes He didn’t SAY how long HE thought it would take to lose 25 lbs… a month? Two? I really don’t know.

I'm being cautiously optimistic about the change in diet… as I’ve seen it before and he has always gone back to the donut and milkshake plan. I don’t want to be pessimistic. I guess I’m being realistic… but I’m still hopeful that this will be a permanent change. I know that is bothered and scared him to have symptoms that put him in the ER and hospital 2.5 years ago.

As long as he hangs in there.

Men are so funny when it comes to weight loss. They do seem to lose faster than women without too much effort at first! I'm actually a little surprised he only lost 2.4 (don't tell him I said that). Most men lose 5-10 pounds their first week of WW. 2.4 is great...don't get me wrongSmiler

I remember my first week. I was soooo excited cuz I lost 5 pounds (that was my one and only time losing that much) and a guy that started with me asked how it went. I told him and then he burst my bubble by telling me he'd lost 10 pounds...errrrr.

Your hubby is lucky to have you for "health" support even if he doesn't know it yetSmiler I look forward to updates on his progress. It's nice to hear how he copes with the program. I don't think my dh could ever count points (too time consuming) and he can't live without bread, potatoes and sweets on a very regular basis that the 35 points would be gone in a heartbeat so core would be tough too.

Oh, I love the story about your hubby's 15 point lunch. I would freak too since I only get 21 points in my day! I'm doing core now which has helped with the feeling of panic that I can't eat againSmiler

Thanks for asking!!

He is supposed to WI tomorrow... but he has an appointment so it might not be until Wed... Unless he comes home pretty soon and can go WI tonight.

I'm guessing that he has lost 2 or 3 lbs this first week… maybe? I'm certain he is down... just don't know how much. He weighed himself yesterday morning and was down 5 lbs… but some of that is clothes. He isn’t a very consistent weigher and he avoids the scale and when he does get on it… sometimes he has clothes and sometimes not… But he did say that it felt more accountable to go to a meeting and have “the lady write the number in my little book”.

He counted points for two days and then had trouble with the eTools... and he has decided that he knows what he does that is "bad". And he is REALLY a creature of habit and usually eats the same thing every day. And (unlike me) he doesn't eat something for dinner and go, "OMG!!! THAT was so good! I'm going to have seconds... and thirds!" He stops when he is full usually.

So he has decided that he doesn't want/need to count points. But he isn't doing Core. But actually, I think in his case... it is probably OK.

Basically, he switched from a eating a donut every morning to a Nutrigrain Bar. And instead of having one (or TWO! some days...) milkshakes a day (from Jack in the Box... with the whipped cream and cherry) he has been getting 4 Snackwell Cookies.

His target is 30 points… and he hit 30 points both days that he counted… without even trying… and with virtually no info or looking up the points.

So in his case… I think that it is probably correct that if he switches out his “worst choices” for some “good, better or best choices” he probably will lose just fine for a while. I told him to just keep an open mind… and if it stops working… then to consider journaling and using the eTools. But if ditching his milkshake habit works for a while… go with that.

I said it might be good to exercise and perhaps avoid losing some muscle, but he isn’t interested.

He has no interest what so ever in the 8 health guidelines.

But he says he feels better and not so bloated. And he is snoring less, so that is good.

And we did go for a walk on Saturday night and he does sound like he is in it for the long haul and knows that if he goes back to the old daily milkshake(s) habit… he’ll go back to his old weight. So well see, because we’ve all been in the boat of KNOWING what to do… but actually DOING IT is another thing.

But THIS week, he is doing really well.

The boyfriend made HUGE strides in his eating when I first joined and explained the Points thing to him and told him how important it was that he was supportive of me.

I don't know if all guys (or girls, for that matter) would go for it, but just showing him how to pack a lunch that made him "full" was an "A-HA!" moment. Whole wheat crackers! Fruit! A big salad! GENIUS!

Challenge Goals:
*10 minutes of unplanned exercise five times a week
*Gym time twice a week
*Socialize at least once every two weeks.

PS... he bought a monthly pass or something...

It was $9something a week for meetings and eTools. He was spending that on milkshakes... so in our case it is a wash.

But if he doesn't have to go to the ER... then that will save us some $$$$.

Give him a big hug from me....
He said that there were about 20 people at the mtg and 2 guys. But for YEARS he has worked with mostly women and it didin't bother him.

It did bother him to be the only one staying for the "Getting Started" session. I said that he should have gone in January... there'd be 30 people getting started.

WW very recently (in the past few days? weeks?) revamped their website... and when you are a man... there is a WHOLE other part of the website that women don't see. (Well I've been in there with Nelson...)

This article kind of sums it up.

http://www.weightwatchers.com/util/art/index_art.aspx?tabnum=1&art_id=37941

But Nelson has a whole other home page... and it is mostly photos of guys (although he saw the homepage *I* see and said something like, "Look at the lady exercising on the roof!" LOL!). The recipes are beef, beef and more beef. Lord help the vegetarian male that joins now.

It is very funny to be living with a MALE newbie. His target is 30 points. He had 15.5 points for lunch and was VERY pleased about this and very happy his favorite lunch is "only 15.5" points. Most woman would faint to find they had eaten 15+ points at one meal.

He has been having milkshakes and cookies from the vending machine... sometimes TWO milkshakes a day. Yesterday he had some Snackwell cookies... 4 = 4 points. He wasn't too happy about that. We talked about lower point alternatives, or the Nabisco 100 cal packs = 2 points.

He said, "I hate those things!" and I said, "Well don't eat them. Better to spend 4 points and enjoy it, rather than to eat 2 points that you don't like."

But he is actually very good and not going into "I'm quitting all sugar" or something like that.

I'll guess that he has been eating about 60-70 points a day... with no exercise. So in a way... he is sort of greiving the change in lifestyle.

But he was very happy with his food choices yesterday. And says that just two days of eating better he feels better.

I think this will be good for his depression, too. Coping with stress with milk shakes and gaining weight is pretty depressing.

When I read the title I thought...no it couldn't be a WW meeting...Denise's hubby is so like mine...complains about weight, knows what to do but never takes action.

Good for him!!! I'm so impressed that he went without you. I hope it is in the air and rubs off on my dh (tee hee).

Let us know how it goes.

Must be something in the air out here. Last week, DH asked if he could join me for my personal training sessions! We have our first "double" tomorrow night. It will be interesting...

Rocket Man should get his props!
