Please please post after you've seen it and let us know how it is! After reading the book, I couldn't quite imagine this being a movie. I anticipate it will be quite an impactful film.

We just saw Stardust. I had never even heard of it but dd got it from Netflix and it was very good. Before that we had Harvey . I just love that movie! Next on the list is Candleshoe (staring a VERY young Jodie Foster). It should be here by Friday. It is one of our favorites from dd's childhood.

i also spent some time this morning watching Dancing with the Stars on YouTube--love Joey Fatone!

The last two nights, the History Channel had a two hour show on Charlie Wilson. DH and I watched the entire thing - complete with commercials and reiterating the story so far after each commercial. It was interesting but probably could have been told in about 1 hour.
I'm looking forward to seeing the movie. Thanks for the review, D.
DH and I watched Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix yesterday. He hasn't read the book. I have. It was very good - even though much has to be left out to keep the viewing time to about 2 hours.
We saw "Charlie Wilson's War" yesterday. I LOVED the book, and the movie was enjoyable. The book is FULL of information, so I wasn't expecting to get everything from the book into the movie, but they hit some of the best highlights from the book. TJ enjoyed the movie, too, and never read the book.
Wouldn't recommend taking anyone who isn't either interested in politics or the world in general to it, and there's some nudity at the beginning (to be fair, it's pretty critical to the story and to understanding Charlie Wilson).
But it was really, really enjoyable. And a true story.

I know most of you are still busy doing holiday things and this is a little late, but…
I really, really enjoyed The Clash of the Choirs this week on NBC. I thought from the opening song on Monday by Nick Lachey's choir from Cincinnati that this would be a whole lot better than I thought.
I did think Patti LaBelle's choir was going to walk away with the honors despite the completely splendiferous job Lachey's choir did with an accapella Flight of the Bumble Bee.
My Ohio buttons are bursting with pride.
That said, I have two Barry Manilow DVDs and the latest Harry Potter to get us (yeah, right - like dh will watch Manilow) through the holiday. Come to think of it, when we were dating we went to a Manilow concert together. Hmmmm!

Overwhelming, but good. I have been packing (and Freecycling) like a fool. I have 2 friends taking carloads of stuff to Reho this weekend, in addition to my carload, so that will help a LOT to give me some relief from piles of boxes to where I can barely navigate through my livingroom.
BTW, if anyone heard about the new WIC Food Packages on the news last night, that is a rule that I edited and I was invited down to the event yesterday where Bob Dole and others spoke. That has kept me very busy too!
Rest of Summer Goals: 1. Exercise-Cardio: Min. 2-3 walking or DVD cardio workouts per week. 2. Exercise-Weights/Toning: Min. 1 weight plus 1 toning workout per week. 3. Food: Get those veggie servings back up to where they were! 4. Behavior: Start reducing sweets now that the automatic after-meal response is better.

We started watching Prison Break just this season so we were kinda lost as to what was going on. But, we LOVE that show and want to get the first few seasons to watch so we understand what has happened. I am bummed that right now the show is not on, they had their mid-season finale a few weeks ago so we are really looking forward to new episodes.

Last night (hooray for NetFlix!) I watched Part I of "Lewis & Clark: Journey of the Corps of Discovery." It was originally on PBS in the mid-90s, made by Ken Burns, and I'd taped it then and watched it over and over...and was SO happy to see it on NetFlix. All that amazing Ken Burns cinematography and styling, set over some of the most beautiful parts of the U.S. I get teary-eyed watching it, how beautiful it is, and how amazing that journey they took was.
(I thought Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee was very well done, though hard to watch, and I'm not sure I want to admit how many times it made me cry...)

We watched Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. It was evidently an HBO movie. Very good.
Watched Strip Tease because I had finished the book. Movie was a big disappointment.
This past weekend we watched Evan Almighty and Shrek the Third. Evan was not as bad as the critics said. Shrek was a major disappointment. And I liked the first one so much.
We did actually go out for a movie on Thanksgiving. Saw The Bee Movie. Not bad. Probably could have waited for the DVD.
DH and I saw a very interesting documentary last night, called "How to Cook Your Life." It won't be everyone's cup of tea, since it moves very slowly and the subject matter isn't exactly titillating. But it does contain lots of messages I needed to hear.
Edward Epse Brown has been the chef at a Zen Center for 40 years, and the movie follows him as he gives a cooking class at the center. He applies the Zen philosophy and teachings to cooking and eating. Treat every grain of rice as if it were your eyes, because food is that precious. If the cook is joyful in his task, the meal will show it.
I came away with an important thought about being "incomparable." No one else is me, so it makes no sense to compare myself to anyone else.
You might not want to spend $9 to see this movie in a theater, but if you get a chance to rent it one day, I think you might get something out of it, too.

AMEN to that!
When dd insists on going to a movie I wear my heavy coat, and stuff tissues in my ears (and it is still deafening). I just do not enjoy the theatre experience.

thinking of which movies to see sunday. anyone seen martian child, or lions for lambs, or American Gangster? wondered if you might give me a quick and dirty review, or maybe a thumbs up/down. (i can always google some movie reviews but have found them unreliable in the past)
