We went to see "Bedtime Stories" since DS wanted to go and I was pleasantly suprised. I like a lot of Adam Sandler and then there are movies I can't make it through ie, "The Waterboy".
This was actually a really sweet movie and good for older elementary/middle school kids. Nothing too offensive, but not too "babyish" for them, and entertaining enough for the adults.

In fact, I was exhausted from not sleeping well saturday night. I reluctantly went to the cinema with the family on sunday with a pillow, wearing my pajamas, thinking I would fall asleep in the theater. In stead, my attention was captivated for the whole 2 hours. it was a wonderful movie!

Ugh...Tropic Thunder...there's two hours of my life I won't get back. If we hadn't been watching it with friends I don't think we would have made it through the whole thing.
The only other movie that I have turned off in the middle was Waterworld. Bleh.

I'm with you on this one, Linda. I thought Baby Mama had SO much promise from seeing the previews and because I love both of the stars, but it was a huge disappointment and not that funny.
I agree too although it wasn't as bad as Tropic Thunder ; )

This is our DVD season. I get loads of movies from the library for between Christmas and New Year's.
I've watched several Hallmark movies - nothing outstanding. We watched 21 - based on the true story of MIT students who won money by counting cards in Vegas. DH and I enjoyed it.
We watched The Bank Job. That was great. It also is based on a true story of a heist in England in the 70s.
We watched Rendition. It was confusing but o.k.

I've also been cleaning loads of material that I have recorded over a long time. Why? I don't know. Compulsion. I think I'm ready to mend my recording ways. I've lived so well without that stuff for so long. So much of it is available on-line now, anyways.

I agree that it is a fun movie and what Jill is being diplomatic about is that at least one of the "big name" actors in the movie couldn't carry a tune if his life depended on it. The girl who plays Meryl Streep's daughter has a beautiful voice and I think Meryl does a fine job for someone who isn't a professional singer.
I originally saw Mamma Mia on stage and I wasn't sure that the movie was going to do it justice, but I think it did. The stunning ocean scenery (something you can't get in a play) sure didn't hurt!

Sheri - I really disliked Tropic Thunder and was very disappointed. I didn't even make it through the whole movie as I just thought it was stupid. (And I generally like Ben Stiller!)
Out of our beliefs are born deeds; out of our deeds we form habits; out of our habits grows our character; and on our character we build our destiny.
I watched Tropic Thunder on DVD and I gotta say I was underwhelmed; especially given all the hype (it was one of Entertainment Weekly's best movies of 2008) and all the big stars (Robert Downey, Jr. is one of my faves).
I think it must have something to do with Ben Stiller. I generally do not like Ben Stiller and this was his movie. There is something about the humor in his movies that is very base and I just generally don't like it (though There's SOmething About Mary was an exception).
A lot was made of the fact that Robert Downey, Jr. was playing a black man in this movie (he plays an over-the-top actor who has his skin treated to be dark to play the part and does a stereotypical Shaft kind of voice). That didn't offend me at all...but there were things in the movie that did offend me. It was supposed to be outrageously funny and I hardly laughed through the whole thing (though I have to admit that moments of Tom Cruise's cameo were pretty darned hilarious).
I think it's definitely a Ben Stiller thing.

Dena gave me the complete Planet Earth for Christmas . I kept trying to watch it on TV and for one reason or another kept missing it.
Vicki drove us crazy on last season's Biggest Loser. I would not be a bit surprised if she gains it all back. They say the people on the next season are the sickest group they have ever allowed on the show.
I don't watch much regular TV. I do like FLN and Planet Green (even if Emeril is on it). FLN plays a lot of my old favorites from HGTV and FN. Maybe we should all start calling FLN and suggest they show the re-runs of Cooking Thin call 865-560-3463.

Otherwise, TV sucks.
Laura,
Too bad we don't live near each other! Northern Exposure, No Reservations, Top Chef, and Biggest Loser (although i agree this last season was a real turn-off) are some of my very favorite shows!!

It was interesting to see the behind-the-scenes machinations of election night in the Gore/Bush race and the acting was very good, but I just couldn't stay interested or awake. Then again, I am not a person who is at all fascinated by politics.
I loved Recount! Of course, I'm a complete political and news junky. It also had Kevin Spacey in a starring role, so that didn't hurt, either.
We watched Bobby last weekend. Catching up. It was o.k.
There is NOTHING on TV. I've been sick with bronchitis, so when I'm tired of reading, I'm cleaning the piles of unseen things I've recorded. You know what - I could have saved the energy on a lot of that stuff, too.
...The entire time through the movie I was saying, "It wasn't like that in the book. That wasn't what happened in the book. That's not the way it was in the book."
That's why I avoid watching movies of books that I have read -- it would drive me nuts.
