A shameless plagiarization of the other thread title. Movies, DVDs, TV shows...what have you liked or hated?
I just saw Spiderman 2 last night, liked that. And I saw Bridge to Terabithia the other night, that was neat, but not as much of the fantasy kingdom as I expected.
On BBCA the other night, I saw a strange show, "Love me, Love My Doll", about four men who have these "Real Dolls" and, quite frankly, I felt sorry for them. They are so isolated socially....(it was also creepy, too)
And then I finally got to see an episode of "Honey, we're killing the kids". I would never have imagined that such draconian measures would have worked, but they did.
I grew up with a little brown chihuahua just like the one in the movie.
His name was "Perky" and every time the Maxwell House jingle (perk, perk, perky coffee!!) was played on the radio or tv he would come running.
We also had a cat and every time she had kittens Perky would "babysit" in the box with the kittens when the mama kitty would go roaming.
He loved to eat ice cream but it would make him sooooo cold and he would shiver so hard that his back feet would come up off the ground and he would tip over face first into the ice cream.

I took DS to see Beverly Hills Chihuahua this weekend. It's not nearly as bad as you think it will be. I know that's hardly a ringing endorsement but the preview with hundreds of dogs dancing and singing amid Aztec ruins set the bar pretty low. If you have school age kids, they will love it and it won't be painful for you to sit through, as kids movies can sometimes be. You might even laugh -- I did.
Warning: My son now wants a chihuahua of his own, sans the Luis Vuitton bag to carry it in, of course.
DH and I just finished watching Recount. I've been dying to see this since I first heard it was going to be broadcast on HBO last spring. It has finally released on DVD and I was able to get it through interlibrary loan.
We both really liked it. There are 3 additional "specials" on the DVD which include Kevin Spacey interviewing the man he played in the movie (a Democrat) and Bob Balaban interviewing the man he played (Republican).
Don't fast forward when Denis Leary and Kevin Spacey start talking about hanging chad(s). There a couple of really funny lines in there. DH left the room, saying don't stop the movie. When he returned, I suggested he missed some good stuff. He thought I was right.
I think this works no matter what your political affiliations are.
Jill & Sheri: Dena is a big fan of Project Runway (and Shear Genius). I don't care too much for reality tv but sometimes I am forced to watch them because that is what she is watching and mother is in the dining room watching Law & Order or CSI which I like even less.
I do sort of enjoy Biggest Loser.
We also watch You Are What You Eat and How Clean Is Your House but I can take them or leave them. I find them quite funny. I feel like they are too "contrived". I don't think they are making any new episodes because we rarely see one that we have not seen a dozen times already.
I don't watch Food Network or HGTV nearly as much as I used to. I like Discovery and the History Channel. The Science Channel has a show called "Next World" about the future that is really interesting.

PR is probably my most favorite reality show. I LOVE it and I heart Tim Gunn. I was thinking last night as I was watching the newest ep that this is one of the weakest final fours I can remember. I have such intense disdain for Kenley at this point that I hope for her to be roundly humiliated and send packing--and I am not a mean-spirited person--but her arrogance and her backtalking to the judges has gone too far and she just gets away with it.

I had to laugh when I read this because I just said the same thing to my best friend earlier on the phone. We were watching the VP debate and he said "I'd rather be watching Ugly Betty." and I said "I'd rather be watching Grey's Anatomy, but I'm doing to try to get through this debate."

Me! I have seen every season from the beginning. Some seasons are GREAT and some are kinda pathetic and some are in between...but when it is good, it is INTENSELY good.
I'll be curious to hear your thoughts on Baby Mama. I didnt' feel it was a BAD movie. It just was a little disappointing as I expected it to be better and funnier.

I have not watched many new movies but saw an older one: National Treasure. It was so good! I cannot wait to see the second one.
As for TV: I am a reality junkie right now. Biggest Loser: Families, Tabitha's Salon Takeover, Project Runway. I am also a Grey's Anatomy fan, and I enjoyed the VP debate tonight but would have rather watched Grey's! Also, I have never been a fan of Lost. I watched one episode a few years ago and could not follow it so I stopped watching. Well, Sci-Fi is running 4 hour Lost marathons every Monday night. Jay has been watching the repeats and I have been watching because that is what is on and I am hooked! What a great show! Any Lost fans out there? I wish now I'd have watched while it was a regular, prime-time show. Very intriguing, very exciting. I almost cannot wait until next Monday.
Sheri, dd saw Baby Momma in theaters and said it was so funny. This coming from a 15 yr old so I plan to watch it and I'm sure I will have a much different perspective than my teenage daughter.

I watched "Baby Mama" with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler a few days ago and I was underwhelmed. From the previews, I really expected to laugh out loud a lot. I chuckled a few times, but it was actually more serious than I expected.

DH and I saw the Tom Stoppard play "Rock 'n Roll" this weekend. It's about dissidents in Czechoslovakia during the Communist occupation -- but it's about so much more, too. If you get a chance to see it, I would recommend it highly!
In conjunction with my Louis L'Amour reading (actually listening to audiobooks) I have watched "How The West Was Won", "The Shadow Riders" and "The Daybreakers". All those movies were based on his books.

I just watched a lovely little independent film called "Bella." It is sweet with a touch of melancholy. Highly recommended.
Edited to add that, in the "behind the scenes" featurette in the bonus features of the DVD, one of the producers says that they wanted this film to "light a candle in the heart" of people who came to see it. I really loved that thought, and I do think it lit a candle in mine.

I watched "Junebug" on Netflix DVD rental last night. I had heard so much about this movie when it was originally in the theatres and it has been on my queue for quite some time.
I must say that I was...well, perplexed would be the nicest word I could use...by this movie. It had so much great talent in it and yet it was SO strange. I thought it was supposed to be funny and charming...and I suppose it WAS charming but it was also very, very strange. The strangeness completely took me off-guard...I wasn't expecting it. I knew that the family in the movie was supposed to be very dysfunctional (and they sure are), so I expected that, but not the weirdness.
At the moment, I'm not sure if I would recommend it or not...I certainly would NOT recommend it to people who are uptight in any way.

"coming out stories." watched on netflix. was fabulous!

I have been on a bit of an Oz kick the past month or so. For those not familiar with it, Oz was an intense HBO show (back in the heyday of Sex and the City) about men and women living and working in a prison. The writing (by Tom Fontana) was absolutely spectacular and the acting was generally excellent.
I had rewatched Seasons 1 and 2 which I owned on DVD and that got me in the itch for more, so I checked on Amazon and the price of their seasons had come down DRAMATICALLY, so I picked up Season 3. As soon as I finished Season 3, I bought Season 4. Now I've finished Season 4 and will probably buy the last 2 seasons to round out my collection.
I miss the show terribly. Sex and the City you can still find on TV (though edited to death), but as far as I can tell, you can't find Oz anywhere BUT on DVD.

Took myself to see Elegy last night. It was good, but a quiet kind of movie. I laughed at a couple of points... its one of those movies I suspect you have to be in the right frame of mind for... its just a sweet, quiet movie, for the most part about friendship and love...
brie, you could have witten my reviews altho i have not seen sex and death. i will put it on my netflix list.
saw Bangkok Dangerous. good for that man in your life who loves action flicks. i actually enjoyed Wanted better (comparing assasin movies).
recently rented My So Called Life--season 1. love that TV series. really resonated for me (raising a teen girl). for instance, when the mother says to her dd "I don't know who you are anymore."

Over the weekend we went to a free movie in the park. They had movie trivia before the show while waiting for it to get dark. We had a very good time but we need to be better prepared next time and take some chairs with us . The movie was "The Goonies".
