Hi all,
Hope you had a good weekend! I was on a long walk yesterday and part of the time was listening to a new to me podcast. I was hoping that we could all share a new healthy living resource that we've been utilizing lately. Here are some ideas on what you might think about sharing:

Websites
Podcasts
Blogs
Cookbooks
Recipes
Babystep you are trying/adding
Exercise videos/plans
Exercise equipment/apparel
Meal planning devices
Pretty much anything that helps you get the healthy stuff done. Smiler

PS... I forgot to post... but I can't help but think of this article during the Shred DVD (or probably any exercise DVD)

http://www.stumptuous.com/why-...like-a-fitness-model

And it can be helpful to remember that the women/people in the video have most likely done some extreme dieting to get in shape for the video filming/production. And it is very likely that they have had surgery and/or liposuction. And they may have taken steroids or other drugs to get the job. Not to mention, they are being filmed with perfect lighting and makeup and hair. And the film has probably been altered in editing to make abs and/or other body parts look “better”. Oh… and they are like 24 years old. And have probably never had a baby.

But I think that it is good work out… oh and also… you have to be careful that you don’t end up with shredded knee joints… but I’m not delusional and think that I might end up “shredded” and looking like an exercise model.

thanks for mentioning the "scale" sensitive. i put on 2 pounds. at first, i wondered if i had to adjust my eating. but then my SO reminded me that I was squat lifting 260 and in the last 3 weeks, i increased it to 300 lbs. so the increased muscle may account for the gain since my pants feel the same or looser.

I really, really enjoyed Dr. David Kessler's "The End of Overeating".

I thought that he does a really good job of explaining what is physically going on in our brains.

* * * * * * * *
I bought Jillian Michael’s "30 Day Shred" DVD. I'm liking it a lot.

http://www.amazon.com/Jillian-...id=1243435248&sr=8-1

It is REALLY easy to follow. (Maybe DVD's have changed since the disco dance videos from the 1980's? Smiler Sad but true... I think that the only other video I owned was a Jane Fonda Step Up Video... which I could never follow... Smiler Oh... and I own a yoga video which is medium hard to follow. ) I also don’t find Jillian to be perky-manic-happy-annoying.

There are three 20 minute exercise segments. They are supposed to be easy, med, and more difficult… but I think that they are all pretty hard… just in different ways.

I usually run in place for the 4 minutes while the ads at the beginning of the DVD are playing… and then 20 minute exercise thing… and then every other day… I’ll get on the elliptical for 15 more minutes. But it is a good DVD if you don’t have a lot of time. OR you use the excuse that you don’t have a lot of time. Or you just don’t like exercise all that much. Since you can do your 20-24 minutes get in strength and cardio and be done with it.

I’ve been doing the Core Strength Exercises at:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/heal...ore-strength/SM00047

I’ve been doing these fairly consistently for 3? years now. Jillian has about 9 different crunches in her DVD… but I just do the Mayo Clinic exercises, since I think that they are harder than her crunches and I also find crunches (even with many variations) really boring.

One warning… I stopped going to the Y and just stared doing free weights at home in November. And I gained 3 lbs during this past ski season which wouldn’t come off… and since my body fat percentage stayed the same and my clothes all fit the same and my measurements were either the same or “better”… I went with it. Then I bought this 30 day Shred thing… and gained another 2 lbs in 15 days… but I think that it is muscle… as my body fat percentage is STILL the same.

MOST people on the WW’ers board also report gaining with this Shred DVD, so it isn’t for the scale faint of heart. Smiler

That sounds sooo awesome Iz. There aren't any in my part of the world but it looks like there might be some in ATL soon which would be nice when I have to be there on biz (to date, a food catastrophe in general). Maybe they'll take off and make their way out west someday. Smiler

i have enjoyed EVOS fast food. they are 50% less fat than regular fast food because they air bake everything. of course, fast food is never the best choice. but if you are running around, exhausted, and you have a hankering for a burger, they are a better choice. I love their soy burgers, and air baked fries. dd loves their chicken nuggets.

i have also been buying Edaname from trader joes. they are a perfect snack and so yummy. I keep a bag at work.

This website seems to be well in synch with KD's philosophy and she has a blog and a podcast. I listened to 2 episodes of her 6 min podcast yesterday and liked them quite a bit. Looks like she does coaching groups that look pretty reasonable in price and approach. I was hoping to find a user community but she keeps that closed for clients only.
