Owww, Jill!!! You poor thing!
I just got back from a week in Florida. I left with a plan, a shopping list and plans to go wild at whole foods (a store I dearly love), and a bunch of determination.
My plan got thrown out the window totally as soon as I left my house. Airport delays and being stuck in 2 airports because of weather screwed up the rest of my meals that day.
I finally got to the store the next day, and bought only what was on my list, making sure that I had all the stuff that I would eat at home on hand so that I had no excuses to eat clean.
Then my mom and step dad asked me to spend more time with them (I had plans to vegetate on my sister's couch with the dogs for three whole days and eat in on all of them). That meant 2 meals a day out.
Then my nephew got sick, we were stuck in for an entire day with a screechy, cranky toddler who got to auntie (who lives in a child-free, quiet house) in a hurry and caused some serious stress eating (which could have been far worse than it was).
Then another day on the go and two more meals out, and a 4am breakfast the following day due to flights and desperately wanting no part of any more restaurant food.
I tried desperately to stay as close to on plan as I could, but my family (who loves me very much) kept throwing my favorite locations for food I don't get often at me. I caved too often into not wanting to hurt their feelings for the efforts to make my vacation a good one, but did try to minimize the damage where I could. (Plus I didn't want to throw my thyroid meds off, so that gave me more incentive to try and stick to my plan.)
I've managed to eat in all meals since and got back on my normal plan immediately, just being back in my own home pushed me right back into my normal routine out of "habit", which was a pretty big relief.
Other than PMS throwing off my scale numbers, I came back a pound less than I left, so I am not complaining one iota. I guess desperately clinging to my plan as best I could really helped. (And having a fanatic need to keep moving after eating each bigger than normal meal helped too.)
Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.
