Did anyone see Larry King last night with the Biggest Loser contestants? I'm still mad.
I've been trying to sort out my thoughts all day long in between the rants and rage. I'll post them on the blog later.
Curious to hear what you guys think about the weight gain, the fact that the trainers didn't seem to stick up for the WINNERS, didn't acknowledge that the weight loss environment of the show is NOT REAL therefor gaining weight after the show IS TO BE EXPECTED and in fact....
I believe Larry King is truly naive and meant no harm when asking former contestants about their weight gain. He's been pickled by Hollywood.
I have always felt that shows like this set people up to fail in the long run. ONe of the contestants when asked how many maintain their weight loss afterwards, said, not many. Most gain it back, or just stay even with what they had lost. Let's face it, this like many other "real life" shows is supposed to be for entertainment. That's why it's a contest and not the way life really is. I won't waste my time on this stuff, Places like this site are more real and show a truer side of life of healthy and losing that anything that tv can match.
Take the opportunity to change one thing about yourself once a day be it large or small. Trying doesn't get anything done.

I thought the most interesting point was the ??2nd person who was voted off. She said when they registered her total weight loss...which was GREAT but not GIGANTIC....'This is real folks!" And the first person voted off ??Amber?? - she lost SO much weight. She still looked heavy because she started so high but I wanted to say good for you sweetheart. You did it ALL on your own! (She had just 1 week w/ the trainers!!)
I saw it...was really pulling for the person who came in 2nd (trying to avoid spoilers if you haven't seen it yet). Oh, well....the finalists in particular looked amazing but it was great to see that everyone had done so well even after going home. I really don't enjoy all of the show but it was cool to see the transformations.
I had it on for the first hour to see the transformations, but then it was my bedtime. It appeared, when I went to bed, that one person was going to win, but I think there was still one person to weigh-in at that point. Some folks sure looked great, but it didn't seem that as many people lost a substantial amount of weight as in the past...or maybe it just seemed that way to me because I haven't been following it closely this season and I always have in the past.
Goals for March: 1. Get some art up on the walls. 2. Do at least 1 day of intentional exercise a week (to start).

Did anyone else watch the Season 4 finale last night? Trying not to be a spoiler here, but during the season, I never would have guessed who the eliminated player winner and overall winner would be!

Yeah, I'll cop to a BL addiction. I'm fascinated by the transformations that these people undergo, but I do sometimes get impatient with the tactics and with "the game."
This season, there seems to be an abundance of product placement. Bob, Kim, and Allison have all mentioned at least one product by its full brand name, even holding it up a la Vanna White. I know, the sponsors pay the bills, but it gets a little annoying.
I haven't really warmed up to anyone yet, so I don't have a favorite, but there are definitely some contestants I don't like.
And as far as the lower numbers this year, it does seem to be happening earlier than in previous years. But I think big break out weeks are ahead for all three teams.
Has anyone else noticed that the contestants on the show seem to be losing less weight each week? And they are so disappointed because they only lost 3 or 4 lbs. I would be thrilled. Now, I know that because of all the hard work they are doing they are expecting to lose 10 or 15 lbs/wk but I kinda like the idea that they are losing a more reasonable and maintainable weight. I'd love to see the change in their measurements-I bet the inches lost would be incredible! And is it just me or are the trainers not nearly as nasty and hard on them as I remember from years past? I mean, they are still tough(Jillian is my least favorite personality wise but I think she kicks A** as a trainer) but I remember them being harder before.
Also, and I can't say I've watched faithfully all these years-but was there more footage of food/cooking/nutrition stuff before? I'd personally like to see them spending time having a nutritionist or someone like KD cooking and showing them what and how to prepare healthy stuff! Hey KD-I think you should be part of this show!!!! You could be the cooking equivalent of the trainers!!!
Anyone else watching the show?

Bravo is running quite a few of the Biggest Loser episodes today. I couldn't stand to watch.
Part of me liked that they celebrated everyone's loss, but I couldn't get past the whole "you're outta here because you didn't lose the most". That is not the kind of attitude you need, even when everyone is in the same boat.
Just me, I guess.
Life is like a roller coaster, with lots of ups and downs, but the curves, spirals, loops and corkscrews are what make life interesting.
I thought it was good that they focused on total weight off and didn't compare specifically to where they were when they ended their season. i know they did mention that and I did some mental math but it wasn't glaring. Being a data gal I'd just love some sort of spreadsheet of all the contestents, % lost, at the ranch, at home etc.... (kidding...)
i liked the new host- but I don't think the editors gave her a chance either. I liked Caroline too though.
My opinion was mixed, too. Wasn't all that impressed with Allison. Wish we could have seen more people (in fact, I'm SURE I saw Brian sitting in the back row next to Pete, but how did I miss his weigh-in?) And I really thought it was cool that Poppi, the at-home winner from last year, who never had the benefit of being on the ranch, lost more than 100 pounds and kept it off.
I saw it. I have a lot of opinions about it - all mixed. First, I loved seeing all of the people and was encouraged that they had kept MOST of the weight off. Of course the all gained SOME back, but that's just a result of going back to real life. I was disappointed in the new host. I was a Days fan in the past (college), so I actually like Allison Sweeney from that, but I don't like her as the host. Maybe she'll settle into it, but she seemed kind of fake and didn't seem to really engage with the contestants the way that Caroline did. Maybe it's because she is an actress, but she seemed to be acting. However, the thing that really annoyed me was the editing. First, they kept cutting Allison off when she seemed to be congratulating the contestants. She was trying to tell them it was good that they kept the amount off "you kept 100 pounds off for three years"...but they kept cutting it off or fading her voice out. It was really annoying me. The proposal seemed a little fake, but was kind of cute.
The whole thing just seemed like a commercial for the new season - of course. But for me, the jury is still out on whether I'll like the new season or not.

was going to watch the new season..will probably still TIVO out of curiosity. I honestly wish they would spend more time on cooking...and not just jello LOL! I did see Erik(??last years winner right?) on some show recently (Today or GMA??) and he did say that it IS unrealistic but that folks could do a watered down version. He was one of the more honest folks. (Did not see LK.) Of COURSE it is not realistic...but when has reality sold on TV?? (You didn't think the news folks told the truth did you? LOL!!!)
I also do not watch Larry King. I have watched the Biggest Loser, and although I think their techniques are questionable, I do like to watch it. I love to see the happiness when they weigh in and they've dropped some(or a lot of lbs). I can't imagine that the BL lifestyle is maintainable on a daily basis during every day life. Unless of course you have no job, no family, and you have a trainer watching you 24/7. I'm sure that regaining some weight is almost guaranteed when these people go home from the show. We watched Fat March the other night. And I thought-OMG, these people have lost 35+ lbs in 2 or 3 months!!! And then I thought-how in the H*** are they going to maintain that loss when they are no longer walking 18 miles in 5 hrs, or performing fitness activities every day in the blazing 100 degree weather?
Denise makes good points. Statistically most people do regain weight and in reading the Beck book she talks about that as well.
And Jen makes another good point-these people, even though they've regained some weight, are still much better off than being 100+ lbs overweight.

Even though Matt, Suzy, and Erik have regained some, they are still so much better off than when they were 100+ pounds overweight. So as much as I don't like certain aspects of the show, I think it has done a lot of good for some people.
