Will the microwave be over your desk? (trouble picturing...) If somebody spills a bowl of chili... will it go on your desk? On your laptop?

PS... I'd buy a new one if the only place the current microwave will fit is unsafe/too high to use comfortably.

Having trouble picturing it… My only thing with a microwave is I think that it should be safe to use. My grandmother moved into senior housing with a built in microwave. The microwave was up over the stove hood and at eye level … if you were 6'5". The rest of us were reaching over the hot stove and pulling out HOT bowls of food over our heads. It was really a STUPID design and very unsafe for anyone less than 7 foot tall. My grandmother was 4'10" and literally couldn't reach it (with out dragging a chair... which she did at 97 years old). We bought a counter top model and nobody used the built in. At some point your dd is going to start using the microwave... and it needs to be safe. I've never lived in a house with a built in microwave... but your kitchen sounds gorgeous and very large and I'm sure there is a good workable solution.
