What do you eat for breakfast? Are you a same-thing-every-day person, or do you get bored with your breakfast choices? Do you actually EAT breakfast, or shovel it down without noticing? Is there room for improvement in your breakfast choices?

Lately, I'm eating two different breakfasts (I'm one of those who gets bored with the same thing). A half-cup of Grape-Nuts Trail Mix with a half-cup of milk or a PB&J sandwich. The Trail Mix is sweeter than plain Grape-Nuts and keeps me full--as long as I remember to put my spoon down and remember that I'm eating (at 4:30am, sometimes it's hard to remember I'm even AWAKE). I make the PB&J with a tablespoon each of peanut butter and apricot preserves on two thin slices of whole wheat bread. It keeps me full for a long time, too.

Since it's sometimes 8 hours between breakfast and lunch, I've tried to move to picking things that'll stick with me for a long time, and I'm willing to eat a few more calories and a little more fat to do that.

Challenge Goals:
*10 minutes of unplanned exercise five times a week

I sometimes don't. Especially if I've got leftover tuna casserole in the fridge. (Yeah, my family never understood it either, but then again they eat cold pizza for breakfast which I find totally disgusting.) But that's pretty infrequent. I like breakfast foods, it's still my favorite meal to eat out, too.

I don't think I'd ever manage something like tomato sauced spaghetti or bbq chicken, but I could totally see spaghetti carbonara (eggs & bacon). Wink That's totally "breakfasty".

I used to eat three breakfasts a week, egg, muffin, cereal, slim fast, each on a different day. OJ every day.

Then I didn't buy the fixings for breakfast, and had to take something else. A peanut butter sandwich, oil free pb and sugar free jelly. Milk and OJ....pretty good. It got me thinking why do we have to do the traditional breakfast routine. Why not a tuna sandwich, chick let or thigh or breast? Why not mix up my meals eat big in the am or noon, and smaller at PM meal? So every once in a while I do that, mix it up and cause havoc for my stomach. It works, for me.

It's never too late to get it right.

I love breakfast. I do try to mix it up.

Today I had scrambleg eggs w. some spinach and some fruit salad. Another day I might just do cereal. I am a moody eater, but do love breakfast! Smiler

We have migas once or twice a month, on the weekend...isabel, I think you might like this. They're easy to make and versatile. Basically, you need tortillas, eggs, and "stuff"...we've used onions, tomatoes, beans, refried beans, leftover chicken, potatoes, corn--just whatever you have, really.

I think butter works best, but I think it would work with olive oil or just a non-stick spray. Cut the tortilla (any kind, 1 per serving you're making) into bite-sized pieces and saute' (along with any vegetables that need to be cooked, like potatoes, onions, carrots, etc) until they're either soft (with butter/oil) or crunchy (with non-stick spray, or with butter/oil if you're patient enough). Add anything else that needs to be heated once that's done--beans, tomatoes, leftover meats--let that heat up, and then add the eggs (1 per serving). Lower the heat and stir until the eggs are cooked.

We tend to top ours with low-fat cheese, non-fat sour cream, and salsa. If you refrigerate it before adding any toppings, they keep for a couple of days and reheat easy enough in the microwave.

The whole point of the dish is to use up leftovers, so whatever you've got that goes together. We had them for dinner one night made with black beans, leftover pork roast, feta cheese, and fresh oregano. Yummmmmy.

It's so good! The Fage is hard to find and it's pricey, but it's thick and creamy and with fruit, sort of reminiscent of cheesecake without the calories. Smiler

I eat a whole grain waffle (homemade) and yogurt almost every single day. Several times this week has been grilled cheese for breakfast, mostly because I've had a little bit of a break and been sleeping in later.

I rarely change my breakfast because it is substantial enough to get me to lunch without feeling like I'm starving.

i am in a food slump. i am so bored with my food choices. part of it is that i am busy so it is easier to just make the same thing every day, but oy vey!!
so my friend brought over some fresh basil, and this week , i have kicked up the flavor with making eggbeater omlettes with turkey pepperoni, pepper jack cheez (reduced fat) and placing leaves of the basil on top. it has been a wonderful breakfast and lunch. this morning , for breakfast, i added a tablespoon of chile refriend beans (fat free) into the omletter, and for lunch, i added a heaping spoonful of tuna. very yummy. it tastes like pepperoni pizza, to be honest. i am sure i will beat this combo into the ground and will have to find something else soon.
since i was brought up in a chinese home, i have never been a cereal girl. i tried oatmeal for a while but i always get an empty feeling with oatmeal. as a child, we always ate leftover dinner--rice, stir fry, meat. we might fry one egg on top (typical asian bowl). i am like you D--i keep my breakfasts hefty because i have to last until lunch. i have been spreading out my breakfast over 2 hours or more because of the classes i teach. that keeps me full until 2pm which is nice. on sundays, i like to have traditional eggs and toast or something different. sometimes, i do a mexican breakfast of fresh tortillas with carne asada, fresh cilantro and salsa. that is a real treat. lately, i have been craving chili with crushe tortilla chips on top. have to go with the baked chips though. oh, love to talk about food, can you tell?

A trainer once told me that you should shoot for half your daily calories before noon. I think that I probably meet this most days.

Most days I have the same thing: 2 slices of toasted Ezekiel bread with 2 T. peanut butter and a sliced banana, plus coffee with soy creamer(7 WW points).

If I work out after breakfast, lately I've been having a post-workout snack of 1/2 c. Fage 2% yogurt over a sliced peach and 1/2 c. of Fiber One and some cinnamon (2 points).

I have a big glass of water with both my breakfast and snack, of course.

I eat a fairly light lunch and dinner most days if I've eaten a lot in the mornings. If I don't eat enough in the mornings, I find it hard to feel comfortable the rest of the day -- I seem to wander around looking for food.

I tend to eat the same thing for a while then change at random intervals. Summer breakfasts are usually a piece of fruit or two depending on its size, a half a cup of yogurt, and a piece of toast or a half a cup of dry cereal for crunch.
Sometimes I do smoothies with a side of dry cereal. Occasionally I actually do put milk on my cereal. In the fall and winter I tend to eat more hot cereal and eggs. In the summer eggs are often eaten for lunch around here. They're easy and don't heat up the kitchen too much.

On days when I have water aerobics I often have a second breakfast. I eat a little less before I go since jumping around on a full stomach is not fun. I tend to have a piece of toast or a handful of almonds and dried cranberries after class.

I usually have 1 slice of toast and Lite Smart Balance and jam about 7am. Sometimes I leave off the jam if it is the week of Xmas and I'm trying to scrounge some calories.

Usually about 9:30-10:30 I have oatmeal and fruit and milk... or cold cereal (GoLean, Shredded Wheat, something like that) and fruit and milk... or sometimes I'm make KD's Mock Muffin, but usually with no Canadian Bacon.

Sometimes we have breakfast for dinner.

Once in a while (like twice a year) we go out for a Grand Slam Breakfast.

Once in a while (like 3 times a year) I'll make muffins.

Used to eat cold pizza or leftover Chinese for breakfast sometimes... but that doesn't happen any more.

My breakfast vary. Some days it is cereal or oatmeal, some days an English muffin. I really got tired of eggs when I did the South Beach diet so rarely do I eat eggs for breakfast. Like Dawn, on weekends we will do a more complicated breakfast. KD's PB and jelly french toast, or breakfast burritos(I can deal with eggs in this form), pancakes, etc. One thing dd loves to have is breakfast for dinner. We usually do that about once/wk during the school year since she is with her dad most of the summer.

I vary my breakfast, but I do eat breakfast. In the winter I usually eat oatmeal.

I also eat english muffins with a slice of ham and cheese, or peanut butter and preserves or honey. Sometimes light cream cheese.

Sometimes regular (regular being some high fiberish) cereal. Sometimes it is just a granola bar.

For my "second breakfast" I eat fruit of some sort. Recently it has been a lot of melon or berries.

Weekends I make a more complicated breakfast like whole grain pancakes or waffles, omlettes, scrambled eggs.

Dawn

I eat breakfast. Not only do I believe that you need to fuel the car before you leave the garage, I take a lot of medication in the morning and that increases my need to get some food on my stomach. Because of my thyroid meds, I have to wait an hour after meds before I can eat so, on workdays, breakfast is at work.

At home: Usually cereal and 1% milk with fruit, though in the winter I will eat more oatmeal.

At work: When I was sick, I discovered Ensure and started using it as an occasional meal replacement. I now use it one day a week for a workday breakfast. Another day, I will have 2 slices of wholegrain toast w/pb on 1 slice or cereal with skim milk. On my first workday of the week, I have my treat of an egg & cheese wrap (scrambled egg & a slice of cheese on a tortilla). Eating this wrap is where I began practicing KD's concept of leaving bites behind. The tortilla they use is large, so I tear off big hunks of it before I eat the wrap. I still get my treat, but I compromise by leaving a LOT of the tortilla behind.

Personal Healthy Habits Challenge - 10/1 to 12/31/08:
1. Exercise: Get back to consistently working out 3-5 X week.
2. Food: Get back to consistently preparing healthy lunches for the week with increased veg servings.
3. Behavior: Reduce intake of sweets.

Today I am having:
1/2 C oatmeal
1 T peanut butter
1 t flax meal
1/2 C skim milk

I have this about 3-4 times each week. Sometime I have hi-fiber cereal and skim milk. Other times I eat toast. The oats are the most satisfying!
I eat fruit for me later am snack.

I definitely eat breakfast every day and I'm in the little variety camp.
It's usually a whole grain english muffin with lite cream cheese.

Usually once/week we'll do whole grain pancakes, maybe twice/month, eggs and once/month a macrobiotic muffin or whole wheat croissant.

Yes, I eat breakfast(didn't used to). I generally have the same thing every day and yes sometimes it gets boring but right now it is too much trouble to change. I am usually wide awake when I eat breakfast because I have to take my Synthroid when I wake up and then wait an hour before I eat. Sometimes (like this morning Wink) I reset the alarm and go back to bed for that hour.

My breakfast is either oatmeal with thawed frozen strawberries (available all year round) or a caprese sandwich between toasted dark bread, washed down with water or juice. I chomp and shovel.

Mornings are no culinary feast. They're generally so hectic I've noticed I really need to make time to eat. If I don't eat, I end up feeling unwell.

I want my breakfast to keep me full, and the standard ham/turkey/cheese sandwiches or just fruit don't do enough.
