My DH went and signed us up w/ a gym yesterday. YEAH! It is right next to my office and there is another location not too far from home.

Wish me luck everyone that I make use out of it like I should!

Today will be my first trip to the gym. Yesterday was the first day I even left the house since Thursday. (No, I forgot,I did leave Sat. evening to go to the gym and pick up a class schedule.)

Anyway, I'm finally over my stomach virus. I have my bag packed, I brought my lunch to work to save time and will leave in time to have a 30 min. workout before I head home.

I thought of you Thursday when I didn't really want to go to the gym to do my lifting but made myself anyway. I was feeling tired and short on time so I did one set of everything instead of two, but at least I still got there.

Dawn
I just got back to exercising today after my bout with the stomach bug and it felt soooo good. I have a date with my husband tomorrow to do upper body (I need him to spot me now) and I'll do my pilates workout on Sunday to make up for my missed day on Wednesday (Sunday is usually an off day for me). I'm excited to get back into the routine again.
Hope you are feeling up to going to workout soon too!

Thank you Lori! Yes, he actually went yesterday and met with a personal trainer there.

Actually, they're not. Don't be alarmed, I'm not backing out already. I have had the stomach flu or something like that for the past 2 days.

If I'm feeling better today, then I hope to go tomorrow. One of my friends said there is a 9am aqua aerobics class at the location near where we live. So, I think we my try to go together to that.

I pay $40 a month for our gym membership and my husband and I each go at least twice and usually three times a week. There are many weeks where I am there for one thing or another four or five times. So that price per use is getting pretty low for us, especially now that the weather is not nice for outdoor workouts.

Sending lots of encouragement your way!

One thing that worked for me... When I feel like "I don't have time", I schedule exercise more days but for fewer minutes each day.

I figure that it is better to exercise 15-20 mins. a day - 6 days a week... than to do 60 mins. one day. Helps keep me in the habit.

I also used to keep track of how many times I went and then figure out how much each gym visit cost me. Sometimes it motivated me to go and see the price per visit drop. If I paid $300 and went 30 times, then it cost me $10 a visit. In my case, this sort of backfired and I didn't think that it was worth it to belong to a gym. But on the other hand, we took the gym membership $$$ and bought a really nice elliptical machine that I have gotten LOTS of use out of...

This amortization thing makes me really happy with my season ski pass... I ski for $10 a day... not bad!

Part of figuring out what works, is figuring out what doesn't work.

It will be really cool to see you post in 6 months... "Exercise was my Waterloo... but here is what has worked for me."

Sending you best wishes... sending wishes for good luck, too Big Grin. It can't hurt. Good luck with traffic and kids getting colds and stuff that is not within your control. Smiler

Just remember that once you get into the routine of going, it will be much easier. Just take the time to form the "gym habit" : )

Sending good vibes your way and of course you have my encouragement and support!

How are the workouts going so far? I like the gym once I'm there, though sometimes when it's cold and dark and yucky out it's hard for me to remember that. Smiler

I am supposed to go lift after work tonight, and I'll need to remind myself of what I just said.

Dawn,
Sending lots of encouragement and support. Do you want to post your plan for us? Do you have a plan? I hope it is not too mighty and that you ease into this as your schedule is really tough.

I guess for me it was an Enlish Language usage thing...should I have said "Pray for me that I can have the discipline to stick to it", or "Please everyone help encourage me to stick with it."

I want to be able to really work this into my schedule. I am fully aware that I am the only one that can make this happen. I totally understand that it is my responsiblity, and that it isn't a matter of luck, or fate, or any other factor. However, as anyone who has been around here for any length of time knows, exercise on a regular basis has been my Waterloo, so maybe I feel that I need some extra encouragement,or something in this area. But, that took a long time to say.

Enjoy your new membership! I hope that you enjoy the facility and all they have to offer.

P.S. Denise - I bristle when people tell me that "I'm lucky" too so I totally understand where you are coming from.

I've been thinking about this. It did strike me as really odd to see you post this, as you normally don't "talk"/post this way.

I think that it also struck me because I have people use weight loss and luck in the same sentence a LOT.

I weighed in at WW the Thursday after Xmas and the person who weighed me in said, "You are one of the lucky ones to loose weight." I wasn't "lucky". It wasn't some freak accident. Does she have any idea how much planning I did every single day in November and December!!! GRRRRRR!

People say that kind of thing all the time. "You are so lucky to be a size 6" or "Good luck at your next weigh in."

I think that it is partly a problem with the English language and partly a problem with being nice. It is easier to say, "Good luck" than "I know you have worked hard and I know that your next weigh in will be a good one."

Easier (and more polite) to say, "Good Luck!!" rather than, "Maybe you will be the one to bend the laws of physics and to loose weight while taking in more calories than you burned. Bon Chance!! More like Fat chance!! Haha!"

So anyway, Dawn, don't take it personally... I know that you don't rely on luck. Smiler

I just get tired of hearing about how "lucky" I am with regards to weight sometimes... and your post brought out the irked side of me. Smiler

We ended up choosing LA Fitness. Mostly because of the locations, and because they have evening and weekend childcare.

Whenever you want. I'll send off an email.

Dawn,
The gym sounds great. I know that you've really struggled with time to exericise.

I agree about the luck--- you make your own. Good job.
